Joyce Pensato

Joyce Pensato (1941–2019) was a New York artist with a distinctive eye for comic and cartoon figures. She transformed Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, the Simpsons, and characters from “South Park” into expressive, often dark icons. The exhibition traces her work from early Batman drawings to her black-and-white enamel paintings. Originally conceived by ICA Miami, the Hamburg exhibition includes around 20 loans from Miami and adds further works. It is the first major European solo exhibition of Joyce Pensato’s work since her death.
