The Hamburg-based MamiVerlag is presenting the two most recent works by Yara Jakobs and Magdalena Kaszuba together at Villa Magdalena K. In „Schläfrige Schlangen“ („Sleepy Snakes“), Yara Jakobs reflects on the ambivalent journey through the early stages of motherhood on 111 pages: large ink and acrylic paintings oscillate between dark and humorous, depicting the challenges and inner conflicts of balancing motherhood and artistic practice. Magdalena Kaszuba presents „another summer is over“ from her new picture essay series „Shorts“. For this work, Magdalena spoke with FLINTA* people from Ukraine living in Germany about their experiences and perspectives on the full-scale invasion.

  • About Yara Jakobs, Magdalena Kaszuba

    Yara Jakobs studied graphics, product design, comics, illustration, and graphic narrative in Angoulême, Bolzano, and Hamburg. Working across various media, she explores psychological processes and family dynamics. „Schläfrige Schlangen“ („Sleepy Snakes“) is Yara’s debut.

    Magdalena Kaszuba was born in Poland and grew up in Germany. She completed her master’s degree at HAW Hamburg in 2022. Her graphic novels focus on socio-political topics, marginalized people, and their lived realities.
