Saloon — Das ist Familiensache

Mia Oberländer

Mia-Oberlaender.jpg von Mia Oberländer

In Mia Oberländer’s second graphic novel „Saloon – Das ist Familiensache“ („Saloon – That's a Family Matter“), we encounter the supposed normalcy of family madness. It all begins when the grandmother invites everyone to a family gathering in the desert. The daughter briefly returns to the confines of her childhood room. Son 1 loves the sound of his own voice, while his partner remains adamantly silent. Son 2, on the other hand, is unable to stand up for himself or others—unlike his wife, who is constantly on the verge of exploding. Meanwhile, the grandchildren would rather be anywhere else. As tensions rise, trigger points are pressed and passive aggression slowly erupts into open conflict, the book leaves one question unanswered: What is the cashier Mrs. Spar doing here? In a furious Dadaist showdown, Mia Oberländer tells of things that happen in every family ... right?

The opening reception is on Friday, October 3, starting at 7 p.m.
