Dominik Wendland

In his book “Immer alles anders” (Always Everything Different), Dominik Wendland tells of the challenges facing individuals in today's society. The changes that the main character in the story undergoes are never arbitrary, but always serve the purpose of fulfilling the expectations placed on her by those around her. Anette Gehrig from Cartoonmuseum Basel, a juror at the Berthold Leibinger Foundation, writes about the project: "The main character in ‘Immer alles anders’ is no one in particular—and thus everyone. This is not to make it easier for readers to identify with her, but because she has lost her true essence: against an expressionistically exaggerated backdrop, she stumbles through days and nights, changing shape and color. In order to meet expectations and offer flexibility, she makes adjustments that alienate her further and further from herself. With consistent stylization, hard outlines, and monochrome color fields, this fast-paced, breathless comic conveys the pressure of having to constantly reinvent oneself."

Dominik Wendland has won the 11th Comic Book Award from the Berthold Leibinger Foundation. The prize, worth €25,000, supports comic book creators in completing a work and is considered one of the most important awards in the German-speaking comic book scene. We cordially invite you to come and learn about this wonderful work: Dominik Wendland will read from his current project and discuss it with Bianca Henze, project manager of the Comic Book Award.

Please note: After the reading, the readers will sign their books at the book table in the MOM Art Space (on the 1st floor of the same building).
